Sex Advice from WOW Players

A former classmate of mine compiled this thoughtful article of sex/dating advice from WOW players, part of a geek culture series (the previous was advice from the D&D set.)

Enjoy! http://advice.nerve.com/2010/01/29/sex-advice-from-world-of-warcraft-players/

They DO know a little about role playing..

The Age of Cute

I just read this article in Vanity Fair about the recent rise of cute in American culture (think youtube sneezing pandas, I can has cheezburger, and domo kun selling you your morning cup of joe at 7-11.) It’s pretty interesting- it correlates the cute phenomenon with tough times… In theory 9-11, two wars, and the worst economy since the 1930’s has triggered our desire to stare at puppies and kittens.

The article cites Japan as the precedent: their cute-volution came after that whole messy WWII thing. It specifically refers to Astro Boy, who… like many other cute Japanese mascots, we’ve since bogarted for a big budget animated feature. Here’s an abridged version of the article.

If that weren’t enough to convince you of our cute-obsession, check out an excerpt from the congressional health care debates this weekend- Rep. Shadegg brought a baby to help sell his argument:

Makes me want a whiskey and a cigarette. Awww ^_^

Lesbian Gamer Wedding

I hate weddings, but I give props to these two ladies for celebrating their geekiness:

Might we see an increase in Portal Wedding cakes in the near future?

Astronaut turned Artist

Alan Bean landed on the moon and now makes money selling paintings.  If those aren’t life goals, I don’t know what is- I’m trying to think of a similar gimmick.  I’ve walked on a volcano, is that close enough?

Check out his Gallery here: http://www.alanbean.com/

Carl Sagan remix

Morning folks!  As you may remember, I’m a fan of Carl Sagan- famed writer and geek dreamboat.  Through the genius of auto-tune, dearly departed Carl serenades us accompanied by kindred spirit, Stephen Hawking. Direct link is here. Mp3 download is here.

Enjoy!
