Travelaffs!

Last night I attended the 6th Tom Stathes’ Cartoon Carnival, a periodic cartoon festival with a 1930s theme and a penchant for naughty old animation.  Skipping the god awful commute to Queens (I wrote out all the directions for the M train but stupidly decided to take the 7 instead and got lost) the location, Attic Studios, was gorgeous.  A vast white loft with two full walls of windows showing a view of the bridge (ONE of them anyway) and the Manhattan skyline.  Many white plastic chairs and a big screen for the 16mm film projector.  And a small roped off area where you can buy drinks, get free popcorn, and flirt with the cigarette girls who offer raffle tickets, ciggs for $1 and candy ciggs for a $1.  Continue reading ‘Travelaffs!’

Screw You, Lenny!*

First, they came for Rollerball and I did not speak out because I was not a fan…

Then they came for The Pink Panther and I did not speak out because I was not a fan…

Then they came for The Karate Kid and I got mildly annoyed, because I was a fan…

Then they came for Total Recall and… DEAR GOD PLEASE NO!!

Nooooooooo!!!!

Noooooo!!!

I tried to doubt it. Hell I only found one site reporting it. And then another. And another. Oh dear god, this is really happening…

Yes, friends, Len Wiseman, auteur of such fine works as “Live Free or Die Hard” and the “Underworld” series, is set to direct a remake of Total Recall (aka the greatest film ever made… possibly).

cOMIC cON 2010

Nothing like a 3 day geek convention to introduce me to the West coast. Armed with my nerdy t-shirts, camera, sketchbook, and magical Super Mario 3 baseball cap, I tried to absorb as much info as possible. I apologize in advance for the random panels I attended.

3 things you need to know: 1) One fan stabbed his friend in the eye with a pen for a seat for “Cowboys & Aliens” 2) Stan Lee made out with two chicks simultaneously in the Marriot hotel lobby on Saturday night, and 3) this will all be in documentary by Morgan Spurlock

The Last Lost Weekend at The Paley Center for Media

feature-lost-wknd-2010

If you’re a LOST fan, as I am, you’re probably kind of curious as to where this is all going. This weekend is the series finale of the show, and to celebrate, The Paley Center for Media is holding a little get-together:

“The Paley Center for Media and New York Comic Con are going to help EASE YOUR PAIN with a fun-filled celebration featuring a slew of events—a DHARMA aptitude test (aka trivia contest), a custom-made Lost game, prizes, giveaways, a panel discussion, and a special screening of a pop-up version of the program that got it all started: the pilot episode.”

The New York Geeks leave their comfort zone and head to Boston for the 2010 Penny Arcade Expo. Listen along as they attempt to get into various panels, play games, mingle with the crowds, and decompress after days spent among their nerd brethren.

NY Geekcast At MOCCA Festival 2010 April 10-11th (Sat & Sun)

FestFlorPlan2010_02
David and I will have a table at the MOCCA Festival this saturday and sunday. M.O.C.C.A. stands for the Museum of Comic and Cartoon art. Lots of independent artists sell their comics, illustrations, toys and various other cool stuff at this venue.

The event will be held at 69th Regiment Armory @ 68 Lexington Avenue NYC. It starts at 11am on Saturday April 10th and we’re at table D2.

Both of us geeks will be selling various wares that we’ve created such as My Monster and Shapesmith Book, and David’s Little Guys short!!! We will also have a limited number of New York Geekcast posters to adorn your studio, bedroom or basement in your mom’s house.

And even if you don’t want to necessarily buy some of our awesome creations (Though why wouldn’t you?) you can still stop by the table and pick up a postcard, sticker, or just let us interview you about your love of comics and what you enjoy about MOCCA.

The photography continues at day 2 of PAX East 2010, where the New York Geeks continue to scope out the gaming scene and not make it into various panels.

Incidentally, we will have a podcast that covers the entire event at the end of the weekend. Until then, enjoy more photos on our Flickr and Facebook pages.
