Random Find: Star Wars POTF figures

potf01

On my way home from this year’s Brickworld event, I stopped at a random toy shop/museum and couldn’t help but purchase these figures, even though a) I don’t love Star Wars the way I used to, and b) it’s not 1995. Though, I suppose these two points are interrelated. Either way, awesome.

“Pale Force” DVD on Sale Today!

Pale Force DVDWhile on the theme of Conan posts, I wanted to make a quick plug for the Jim Gaffigan/Conan O’Brien “Pale Force” DVD that went on sale today!  I and my cohort Tom Smolenski animated the first “season” of 20 webisodes now 3 years ago, and it’s still some of the work I’m most proud of.  I don’t get any residuals or kickback if you buy it, and my name appears nowhere on the disc or packaging, but I think it’s a hilarious series that deserves as much exposure as it can get (and should be given heaps of money for more to be produced).

Matt at X-Entertainment buys life-sized Jason

Geeks of any caliber will likely be familiar with the X-Entertainment blog, run by a guy named Matt Caracappa. He’s a master of 80s pop culture, and I also enjoy his occasional work in ToyFare magazine.

Anyhow, he today chronicles a recent trip to K-Mart, where he went in to buy Halloween Cap’n Crunch, but came out having purchased a life-size animatronic Jason Voorhees. Go check it out.

Pole-dancing doll. And?

A recent article on the New York Daily News website attempts to sensationalize a photo that was recently discussed on Gizmodo — that of a pole-dancing toy doll being sold somewhere.

The photo is most likely of some kind of bootlegged discount-store import toy, but that’s not the point. What makes me annoyed is a) how the Daily News is trying to make “news” out of this random internet photo, and b) the idea that this doll could, in any capacity, be harmful to a child. Parents buy their kids things like Bratz dolls — which make me want to puke — but heaven help us if a cabbage patch kid comes with a dance pole. Spare me.

Throw away your money on Disney Adventures Magazine

Did you subscribe to Disney adventures as a kid? I did. Anyway, somebody is selling “nearly every issue” (way to be specific) of the 1990-2000 run of the magazine on eBay, with a starting price of — wait for it — $1500. Or you can Buy It Now for $2000.

Ridiculous? Yes. I’ve bought a couple of back issues on eBay myself, and even if you were to bid on them here and there, you’d likely pay no more than $5 a piece. Thus, the entire 120 issues of that time period would run you around $600 max.

Yeah. Good luck with the sales, there, buddy.
